Elo publishes on its website:
Elo is the most active private investor in the Finnish growth company market. In terms of number of units, we are involved in more domestic investment funds than any other pension company. As an investor, we operate in over 60 domestic private equity funds, and the total amount of investment commitments exceeds half a billion euros.
Investment commitments over the past ten years represent approximately 5–6 percent of all capital raised by domestic private equity funds. Investing such a large amount would not be possible without a functioning ecosystem and cooperation with other investors. We have also increased our activity in investing directly in Finnish unlisted companies.
What is the advantage of having invested in growth companies for ten years?
“Investing in Finnish growth funds has given us a broad understanding of the private equity market. We know the players in the industry and their investment history well. This is of great importance when we select funds for our portfolio,” says Simo Liettilä , Elo’s portfolio manager .
Understanding the international market, and especially networks, are also important for investors. Domestic private equity funds raise funds from outside Finland, and international capital will continue to be needed to ensure funds of sufficient size. It is easier to convince international investors when domestic parties have already invested in the funds.
