KPA Pension is investing SEK 200 million in a bond issued by the City of Gothenburg. The investment enables the City to continue its work to address climate change, reduce emissions and ensure long-term resource efficiency.
We are of course very happy to be part of Göteborg Energi’s largest climate investment, which is the Rya Cogeneration Plant. It is an important piece of the puzzle for phasing out dependence on fossil fuels. For us, it is a good example of how our customers’ occupational pensions create added value before they are paid out as pensions, says Mark Johnsson, business developer at the Folksam Group.
Major projects in the City of Gothenburg’s project portfolio where the funds will go are:
- BKV Rya, Göteborg Energi AB . Investment in a biofuel-fired steam boiler with the goal that all district heating in the company’s own production by the end of 2025 will be based on renewable and recycled sources.
- Riskullaverket, Gothenburg Energy . Continued investments in renewable district heating production at Riskullaverket.
- Stormwater pond . Enables the purification of polluted stormwater before it is released into the Lärjeån River – a process that improves water quality and contributes to the area’s biodiversity.
- Packhuskajen . Continued climate adaptation work to prepare the quay for future climate change and reduce the risk of flooding.
The City of Gothenburg is working exemplary in reducing its impact on the climate while strengthening its resilience to climate change. It is a combination that appeals to a pension company like KPA Pension with the mission of creating returns and secure pensions for our customers through sustainable investments, says Mark Johnsson.
