Mikko Mursula appointed CEO of Ilmarinen

Ilmarinen’s Board of Directors has appointed Mikko Mursula, M.Sc. (Econ.), as Ilmarinen’s new CEO. Mursula has previously served as Ilmarinen’s Chief Investment Officer and Deputy CEO.

Mikko Mursula will start as CEO of Ilmarinen on 1 September 2025. Mursula has worked as Chief Investment Officer of Ilmarinen since 2015 and as the company’s Deputy CEO since 2021. Mikko Mursula holds a Master of Science (Econ.). His previous professional career has included serving as CEO of FIM Corporation, Director of Asset Management and Brokerage Business at S-banken, and various positions in Ilmarinen’s Investment Department.

– Ilmarinen’s Board of Directors conducted a thorough mapping process with an external partner. In this case, the person who best met the experience and expertise required for the position was found within the company. The selection was based on strong expertise in the world of finance, investment operations and business management, as well as knowledge of earnings-related pension insurance. I am very satisfied with Ilmarinen’s own succession planning. Mikko is exactly the right person to lead Ilmarinen from now on, says Jorma Rauhala, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ilmarinen.

– I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead Finland’s largest pension company. I know the company well, as I have worked here for a total of 20 years. Ilmarinen is in strong shape and has developed significantly in recent years. It is good to continue this forward together with our skilled personnel and customers. I am taking on the role of CEO in an interesting situation, where, among other things, we are preparing for a pension reform that will strengthen pension financing. We are now and in the future doing long-term, socially significant work for the benefit of Finnish working life and all our customers, i.e. 1.1 million current and future pensioners. This is meaningful work, if anything, says Mikko Mursula .

Ilmarinen’s current CEO Jouko Pölönen will continue in his position until the end of August, after which he will become CEO of eQ Plc.
