The Folksam Group is investing SEK 200 million in a green bond issued by Östersund Municipality to develop and take the next step in ongoing projects within renewable electricity and sustainable residential areas.
– Östersund Municipality is working in many ways to limit climate change, which we see as very positive. Investing pension money in municipalities means increased opportunities for sustainable social development and contributes to a secure and good pension for everyone who works in municipalities and regions, says Mark Jonsson, business developer, KPA Pension.
Distribution within the Folksam Group:
KPA Occupational pension insurance SEK 88 million
Folksam Life SEK 44 million
Folksam Occupational Pension SEK 32 million
Consumer Cooperative Pension Foundation SEK 10 million
Folksam Property SEK 26 million
“We are the pension company for employees and employers in municipalities and regions. If our investments in that sector can contribute to increased interest in welfare jobs, we will have done great good with our customers’ pension money,” says Mark Jonsson.
Examples of projects in the municipality that are refinanced:
Hocksjön wind farm
Jämtkraft together with Persson Invest has built a wind power plant consisting of 23 wind turbines in Sollefteå municipality. The plant was completed in the winter of 2022/23 and is estimated to produce approximately 430 GWh of renewable electricity per year.
Hissmofors battery plant
A 15 MW battery storage facility was built at the Hissmofors hydroelectric power plant and put into operation in the autumn of 2024. The facility will support the power system through so-called support services to keep the frequency stable in the electricity grid and enable more renewable electricity production in the electricity grid.
Remonthagen
Östersundshem has built energy-efficient, innovative and sustainable residential areas. Stallmästaren, located in the Remonthagen area, is a Secure Housing for the 65+ target group consisting of 72 apartments. They have also built 24 small space-efficient apartments for a younger target group with the hope of counteracting segregation and achieving a socially sustainable residential area.
