Today Aegon announced that Bas NieuweWeme, CEO of Aegon Asset Management, will step down from his role per September 23.
Bas led the firm since June 2019, and under his leadership the firm has grown its third-party client base significantly, resulting in a strong, global, client focused asset management business. At Aegon Asset Management we recently reached a number of significant milestones, and we closed the first half of 2024 with solid results. After 5 years in the role, this created a natural moment for Bas to reflect and explore a next step in his career.
He will be succeeded by Shawn Johnson, who with his extensive international experience in the Asset Management world, is very well positioned to lead Aegon AM into its next phase of sustainable growth. To ensure a smooth transition after September 23, Bas will stay on as advisor to Shawn Johnson and the Aegon AM Management Board until December 1.
