Hjalmar Schröder is the new Head of Risk at Zürcher Kantonalbank

  • As of April 1, 2024, Hjalmar Schröder will be the new Head of Risk and a member of the Executive Board
  • The graduate physicist and current head of sales and trading for foreign exchange and precious metals at the bank succeeds Roger Müller, who will leave the bank on March 30, 2024
  • His appointment follows a careful, multi-stage selection process that underscores the bank’s commitment to strong corporate governance

The Board of Directors of Zürcher Kantonalbank today appointed Hjalmar Schröder (51) as the new Head of Risk and a member of the Executive Board effective April 1, 2024. Hjalmar Schröder, who has worked for Zürcher Kantonalbank for eight years, has extensive specialist and managerial experience in banking, particularly in the areas of risk and trading. He succeeds Roger Müller, who will leave the bank at the end of March 2024 as part of the regular succession planning for the members of the Executive Board.

Hjalmar Schröder joined Zürcher Kantonalbank in 2015 as Senior Market Risk Engineer and, as project manager, was responsible for the implementation of the new regulatory standards under Basel III. He then took over the management of the Market Risk department. Hjalmar Schröder has been Head of Sales and Trading for Foreign Exchange and Precious Metals since 2020. He started his career in 1996 at Swiss Bank Corporation – from 1997 UBS – where he held various management positions, including Executive Director for automatic pricing in the foreign exchange and money market, and then Managing Director for the further development of the electronic trading platform. In his last role at UBS, he led a global IT team of 250 people in FX trading. From 2013 to 2016, Hjalmar Schröder was a member of the management of EMFA Holding AG in Kerns, which invests in agricultural businesses in Romania. Hjalmar Schröder studied theoretical physics at the Technical University of Berlin and holds a degree as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He has dual German-Swiss citizenship and lives in Uster.
