The Bank Council of Zürcher Kantonalbank today appointed Martin Bardenhewer (55) as the new Head of Finance and member of the Executive Board effective May 1, 2023. Martin Bardenhewer, who has worked for the bank in various positions for around 20 years, can draw on a very broad range of specialist and managerial experience in the areas of finance, treasury and corporate banking as well as in the investment business. Due to the internal succession solution, Rudolf Sigg will leave the bank on April 30, 2023 – as agreed with the board of directors and as part of the regular succession planning for the members of the Executive Board.

“We are very pleased that with Martin Bardenhewer we can appoint an internal expert in finance and capital market issues as CFO. His track record and his experience, which he was able to acquire in recent years within the bank and through external mandates, as well as his personality make him stand out for this task. He was co-lead with the Swiss National Bank for the concept of replacing the Libor with SARON. This underscores his professional qualifications and his work for the Swiss financial center,” says Dr. Jörg Müller-Ganz, President of the Bank Council of Zürcher Kantonalbank. «As part of a multi-stage selection process, Bankrat carefully evaluated internal and external candidates. Martin Bardenhewer has all the prerequisites to successfully continue the Finance business unit and to tackle future challenges. We wish Martin Bardenhewer much success and happiness in his new role.»

Urs Baumann, CEO, adds: “I congratulate Martin Bardenhewer on his appointment as CFO and welcome him as a member of the Executive Board. The bank will benefit from his extensive financial knowledge and broad experience. I wish Martin every success in his new role and look forward to working with him.»

Martin Bardenhewer joined Zürcher Kantonalbank in 2001 as the person responsible for the models used to manage balance sheet risks. He was then responsible for risk measurement in the trading business as Head of Market Risk Controlling. In 2007 he was promoted to Head of Treasury and Deputy CFO. After around ten years in the Finance business unit, he moved to the Institutionals & Multinationals business unit in 2017, which he has been deputy head of since then. There he is responsible for key account management for institutional clients and multinational corporate clients. In the meantime, he was also responsible for international banking relationships and the products for the foreign trade business of customers of the Zürcher Kantonalbank.
