NRGi and Sampension behind new large solar plant on Djursland

NRGi and Sampension are investing, via the company NRGi Renewables, a large three-digit million sum in a future East Jutland solar park that will produce 132,000 MWh per year. The first sod for the new facility is expected to be taken in August.

A new solar plant on 122 hectares southeast of the town of Kolind on Syddjurs will soon see the light of day. The local plan for the solar cell project was thus approved by Syddjurs Municipality at the end of March, and NRGi Renewables, which is owned by NRGi and Sampension, now states that they are ready to proceed with the project.

The final investment decision was, among other things, taken on the basis of a number of commitments from several companies that are ready to purchase a share of the power that the new solar park is projected to produce. The future solar plant will be built on an open land between Kolind and Nødager – an area that is currently used for agriculture. The project will cover a total area of approx. 122 hectares, equivalent to approximately 170 football pitches.

Kudos to the collaboration

At NRGi Renewables, we are looking forward to the new solar cell project becoming a reality. This is explained by Jakob Bundgaard, director of NRGi Renewables, who is responsible for the development and operation of wind and solar cell projects throughout the country.

“We look forward to building this solar park, which, with its size and production capacity, helps to mark that solar energy plays a significant role in relation to our ambitions to accelerate the green transition,” says Jakob Bundgaard, who has only praiseworthy words to say about the development process of the solar project.

“We have developed this project in close collaboration with Syddjurs Municipality, the local community and the nearest neighbours, where there has been a good mutual dialogue throughout the development of the project. And as a cooperatively owned company, it is always an extra great pleasure to develop projects that create value in the local area where our cooperative members live.”

The total investment from NRGi and Sampension via NRGi Renewables in the solar park amounts to a larger three-digit million amount. Sampension is also very pleased that a final investment decision has now been made for the Kolind solar project.

“It is a major focus area for Sampension to participate actively in the development of new sustainable energy and thus contribute positively to the green transition. At the same time, we are very happy with our collaboration with the NRGi Group around NRGi Renewables, and we see great future potential to implement further projects together for the benefit of both increased sustainability and our pension customers’ returns,” says Torbjørn Lange, head of properties and infrastructure in Sampension.

Green pool of DKK 10 million

According to the legislation on renewable energy, installers of energy systems must contribute financially to a Green Pool, which the individual municipality sets up. Syddjurs Municipality can therefore look forward to NRGi Renewables contributing DKK 10 million to the municipality’s pool. The funds must go to green and non-profit projects in the local area.

It is estimated that the solar plant will produce approx. 132,000 MWh per year, corresponding to the annual power consumption of approx. 30,000 households, and that the solar plant will be completed and ready for operation in the spring of 2025.
