M&G boosts resources in its global equity investment team

8 November 2022

M&G Investments today announces the expansion of its Global Equity team’s capabilities, with new dedicated resources being added to the Global Listed Infrastructure and Global Themes strategies.

Nicholas Cunningham (photo) will become Deputy Fund Manager on the Global Listed Infrastructure and Global Themes strategies and will work closely alongside Alex Araujo from January, subject to regulatory approval. With more than 16 years of experience gained primarily in the Asia Pacific region, Nicholas joins the team with a wealth of knowledge in the industrials and infrastructure sectors. Meanwhile Son Tung Nguyen, who joined M&G six years ago, has also been promoted to Senior Analyst, in recognition of his additional strategic responsibilities.

With a focus on infrastructure companies across the globe that offer excellent capital discipline and the potential for long-term dividend growth, the Global Listed Infrastructure strategy now manages assets of nearly EUR 4 billion since its launch in 2017. The Global Themes strategy, managed by Alex Araujo and team since 2019, has over EUR 3 billion in the strategy, investing primarily in companies which align to themes which arise from changes within economies, industries and societies from across the globe. Both strategies apply Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and sustainability criteria to their portfolio holdings. The strategies form a component part of the wider Global Equities team, which now manages circa EUR 21 billion of assets, across a range of value, income and thematic strategies.

The changes build upon the recent appointments of analysts Ana-Cristina Mutilica and Georgi Gunchev to the Global Equity team, both of whom joined earlier this year to strengthen research and engagement capabilities. With a background in stewardship, Ana-Cristina primarily focuses on corporate strategy, sustainability and climate risk management, while Georgi has a strong background across European banks, with a particular focus on Spanish and Italian lenders.

Fabiana Fedeli, Chief Investment Officer, Equities and Multi-Assets at M&G, says: “The strong performance of the Global Listed Infrastructure and Global Themes strategies under Alex Araujo and his team’s tenure showcases the in-depth expertise and solid and repeatable investment process, which have earned increasingly greater recognition among our clients. Nicholas joining the team will continue to strengthen such expertise and further help our clients take advantage of the opportunities within global equities.”
