Universities Superannuation Scheme publishes on its website:
“Universities Superannuation Scheme Ltd – the trustee of the UK’s largest private pension scheme by way of assets – has appointed Lindsey Matthews to the Group Executive Team, as the new Chief Risk Officer. Subject to regulatory approval, he will take up the role on 21 September.
The Chief Risk Officer provides risk management expertise to the senior team and leads the Group Risk function. He will assist the board in its oversight of risk in the pension scheme, the trustee organisation and its subsidiary, USS Investment Management Ltd. Lindsey replaces Guy Coughlan, who has now taken a role within USS Group focussed on delivery of the pension scheme valuation.
Lindsey has nearly 30 years’ experience in financial markets, most recently as UK Chief Risk Officer and Global Head of Investment Risk for UBS Asset Management. He started in derivatives, before moving into risk control. He has previously held roles as a senior advisor at UBS Wealth Management, as a senior advisor at StatPro PLC, as Head of Risk for UBS Delta and in a client education function.
Bill Galvin, USS Group CEO, said: “We are delighted that Lindsey has agreed to join USS. His skills and motivations mean that he is very suited to an organisation dedicated to delivering highly valued pension promises to our members and their families, effectively and safely. Risk management is at the core of our task as a pension trustee and investment manager, and Lindsey will be an excellent addition to the team as we navigate through these challenging times.”
Lindsey Matthews said: “I am very excited to be joining USS, an organisation I have known and admired for many years, with a strong ethos and excellent people. Strong second-line oversight of all risk exposure is a fundamental requirement for any financial services firm to function well and I am greatly looking forward to building on that.”
