Both companies and insurers face complex challenges in a dynamic market. Advisors are needed here who examine risks in a well-founded manner and make forward-looking decisions with the customer.
FRANKFURT AM MAIN, April 8, 2022 – The consulting and service company WTW has appointed Thomas Olaynig (40) as head of the Corporate Risk & Broking division for the DACH/Poland region as of July 1, 2022. This area of WTW supports companies in identifying, reducing and transferring their risks.
Olaynig has around 20 years of experience in industrial insurance and previously held several management positions. In his new role as Head of Corporate Risk & Broking, he will be responsible for business in the DACH/Poland region and at the same time manage WTW’s insurance brokerage business in Germany. In addition, he is appointed managing director of Willis Towers Watson Versicherungsmakler GmbH alongside Monika Behrens. In Germany, Olaynig succeeds Mathias Pahl, who will take on a new role outside of WTW.
“We are pleased that in Thomas Olaynig we have been able to gain a colleague with many years of expertise in the insurance market,” says Dr. Reiner Schwinger, Head of DACH/Poland at WTW. “Together Thomas Olaynig and Monika Behrens will strengthen our position in an increasingly volatile market and lead the Corporate Risk & Broking business area, which is very important for WTW, into a successful future.”
Challenging business environment
Companies and the insurance industry are currently facing a multitude of challenges in equal measure. Risks faced by companies are changing constantly and at increasing speed, primarily as a result of digitization, geopolitical tensions combined with global networking and climate change. Added to this are the effects of the corona pandemic and inflationary tendencies. Companies are currently asking themselves what risk management measures their HR and risk managers should take in such a volatile market environment. For example, some companies find it more difficult to implement appropriate risk transfer because stakeholders are increasingly attaching importance to ESG (environmental, social and governance) criteria.
Olaynig emphasizes: “The current market environment is very demanding. However, with the combination of motivated and competent employees as well as market-leading, well-founded data and analytical skills, WTW has the decisive factors at its disposal to contribute to the long-term success of its customers right now.”
Mathias Pahl, previously Managing Director of Willis Towers Watson Versicherungsmakler GmbH and head of the Corporate Risk & Broking division, was with WTW and the predecessor company Willis for almost 20 years, 13 of which as head of the insurance brokerage business in Germany. “Mathias Pahl played a key role in driving the expansion of the broking business in Germany and we thank him very much for his work,” says Schwinger. “We wish him all the best and every success for his future career.”
