Industriens Pension has hired 53-year-old Peter Mikkelsen as the new head of department for Real Assets, which covers investments in infrastructure and properties.
As the new head of Real Assets, Peter Mikkelsen will be in charge of a department that currently manages investments worth approximately DKK 40 billion and constitutes a central part of Industriens Pension’s portfolio. The investments are distributed over approximately DKK 29 billion in infrastructure assets worldwide and DKK 11 billion in Danish and foreign properties.
In addition, Peter Mikkelsen will be responsible for the process of assembling the investment universe in Industriens Pension as efficiently as possible.
In recent years, Peter Mikkelsen has worked as co-owner and investment director of the investment brokerage firm Marselis, which works with asset management targeted at funds, family offices and wealthy private clients. Previously, he has held various management positions at Nordea for many years, most recently as responsible for the Nordea Group’s own liquid bond portfolio of approximately DKK 370 billion (approximately EUR 50 billion), as well as Nordea’s portfolio of alternative investments of approximately DKK 15 billion (EUR 2 billion).
Earlier in his career, Peter Mikkelsen also held management positions at ABN AMRO Bank in Copenhagen and London, and in his career in the financial sector he has worked with investments across asset classes for around 25 years.
“I am convinced that we at Industriens Pension can greatly benefit from Peter Mikkelsen’s many years of experience with investments across asset classes at a high level. Peter has been around the investment world extensively in his career to date, and he has the right prerequisites to ensure continued good results within complex investment areas such as infrastructure and real estate,” says Peter Lindegaard, Investment Director at Industriens Pension.
Peter Mikkelsen will join Industriens Pension on 1 March. He lives in Frederiksberg, is married and has four children.
Ongoing generational change
Peter Mikkelsen takes over the position as Head of Real Assets at Industriens Pension from 65-year-old Jan Østergaard as part of an ongoing generational change. Jan Østergaard will continue in a specialist role in the department and will also work across the organization with product development in the investment area.
Jan Østergaard has been part of the investment management, including as investment director for a number of years, at Industriens Pension since his appointment in 1998.
“Jan has made an extremely valuable and huge contribution to Industriens Pension over the years. He naturally has a very large share in Industriens Pension’s strong long-term results, and I am very pleased that we can continue to benefit from his skills in the organization,” says Peter Lindegaard.
Property manager continues in unchanged role
Industriens Pension’s property manager, Søren Tang Kristensen, will continue in his current position unchanged. He will report to Peter Mikkelsen, who will have overall responsibility for the entire department across properties and infrastructure.
Industriens Pension has total investment assets of around DKK 245 billion.
