At the election meeting of the Workers’ Representative Council held yesterday, representatives voted for the seats of two board members (a man and a woman) as well as an alternate (a man) for a two-year term.
Jakob Tryggvason was re-elected to the board of the fund as a general member for the next two years. Jakob is the chairman of the Icelandic Electrical Industry Association. Jakob was on the board of the fund from 2016-2020 and previously the predecessor of Birta. He was chairman and vice-chairman of the board from 2018 to 2020. Jakob was re-elected to the board of the fund in 2023.
Bára Laxdal Halldórsdóttir was elected to the board of Birta by the employees as she was the only woman running for office. Bára has been an alternate on the board in recent years but has sat on the executive board since May 2024 as an alternate. Bára has been active within the trade union movement for many years. She sits on the board of the Icelandic Electronic Engineers Association and on their behalf on the central board of the Icelandic Electrical Industry Association. Bára is also the secretary of the Icelandic Electrical Industry Association.
Garðar Garðarsson was re-elected as an alternate member of Birta’s board. Garðar is a member of VM and is a mechanic and mechanical and operations engineer.
Birta’s new board will be introduced at the fund’s annual meeting, which will be held at the Reykjavík Grand Hotel on April 22nd.
