Peter Borgdorff new chairman of the Supervisory Board of Lifetri

1 september 2022

Peter Borgdorff has been appointed Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Lifetri as of August 25, 2022. Peter Borgdorff is a highly experienced director in the financial sector and an authority in the Dutch pension market. With this appointment, Lifetri underlines its ambitions in the pension market by offering pension fund participants a guaranteed pension.

Authority in the Dutch pension market

From 2007 to 2020, Borgdorff was director Pensioenfonds Zorg en Welzijn, the second largest pension fund in the Netherlands. During this period he was also chairman of the Supervisory Board at KAS BANK. Borgdorff was previously director of the Association of Industry Pension Funds.

In addition to the chairmanship of the Supervisory Board of Lifetri, Peter Borgdorff is chairman of the pension advisory board of CACEIS Nederland, chairman of ANBO, member of the Supervisory Board of Nibud, member of the Supervisory Board of Bartiméus and executive lecturer and moderator at Nyenrode Business University.

Guarantees in an uncertain world

The appointment of Peter Borgdorff is in line with Lifetri’s ambitions in the pension domain. The Dutch pension system is on the eve of a major transition. Partly because of this, the need for guarantees on the entitlements accrued with pension funds is increasing enormously. Lifetri offers pension fund solutions in which participants receive a guaranteed pension, supplemented if desired with an equally guaranteed protection against inflation in the form of indexation.

CEO, Philippe Wits of Lifetri is delighted with the arrival of Peter Borgdorff who succeeds Herman van Hemsbergen: “It is important for us that we continue to grow, invest in talent and remain a trusted face in the pension sector. We are therefore proud that we can connect someone like Peter to us. Peter is a perfect fit for Lifetri: he shares our vision to put the interests of participants at the centre of the pension proposition and believes in our mission to make people self-confident. We would like to thank Herman for the collaboration over the years and for his energetic contribution to help Lifetri grow into the solid insurer we are today.¨

Herman van Hemsbergen: “I have experienced the past period at Lifetri and in particular the collaboration with the shareholder, the Supervisory Board and the Management Board as inspiring and valuable. I wish Peter, in my view a figurehead in the Dutch pension world, a lot of inspiration and success in his new role.”

Lifetri innovative, reliable partner for pension funds

Peter Borgdorff about Lifetri: “After working in the world of social partners, pension funds and NGOs, it is a great opportunity for me to use that experience at an insurer with great ambitions in the Dutch pension market. As chairman, I see our Supervisory Board not only as a supervisor, but also as an important sparring partner for the Management Board.”

“The forthcoming pension reform is the largest that has ever taken place in the Netherlands. Pension fund boards are faced with important considerations in this regard. One of these is the degree of security they want to offer their participants. Lifetri offers large and small pension funds tailor-made arrangements to provide that security. I think this will meet a great need in the coming years and I am happy to be able to make a personal contribution to that.”
